Daisy

Braća Dean and Dan Caten  koji stoje iza brenda Dsquared²  svojim kreacijama me oduševljavaju. Svaki put dok gledam njihove revije iznova uživam.

Kako izgleda tvoj proces stvaranja?

It is my great pleasure to introduce you to the wonderful our cooperation with the young designer and student of the Faculty of Agriculture Milica Milic, who stands behind the name  DaisySkirts
Milica is creating unique skirts, ties and shirts, the pieces are made from the most tender materials colored with pastel colors.
Art requires you to always be original, creative and full of ideas, but for Milica Milic this is not a problem – she finds inspiration in every moment.
I had the honor and the “freedom” to present one of the Milica`s shirt and tie model in our own way and our own photography style.

Short interview about the humble beginnings, current projects and plans for the future:

When did you realize that you have a talent for design and that you should show others what you’re doing?
Until I started to with this, I often created and saw certain pieces of clothes for myself. I started designing for the love of fashion and it occurred spontaneously, without any particular objective. To some extent I became aware that, after a certain time, based on the impressions of other people who have seen my work. This is what encouraged me to go on. I think that there is a lot to learn and work, to better develop my talent.

What was the first garment you designed?
Everything has started from the skirt. They are still my trademark.

How would you describe your creations?
I can say that they are romantic, feminine pieces with a small dose of boyish. It’s the best shown in the last collection that I called 70’s pastel. Romantic, gentle skirts with refined details such as lace, beads and fur, I added a little contrast – shirts with wide collars and neckties as an essential accessory that complement the collection. Often I play and I like to blend “soft”, that is gentle with the opposite elements. This ensures that the skirts are not only stylish and are not intended only for a ceremony. I try to make pieces of clothing that can be worn in different circumstances and that fit into different styles of clothing. Therefore, when I take photos, combinations that models wear on them are mostly casual. I present and dispay all in a slightly different way, the skirt of tulle is not necessarily worn with heels.

What inspires you while you create a “fairy-tale” collections?
I have to mention that this “fairy-tale” was created unconsciously. My original idea was not to create a “fairy-tale” creations or skirts, which where the only item in offer, but I eventually realized that people experience them as such. That is what the ladies like, and I can not complain about that. As far as inspiration is concerned, I would not have been able to say what inspires me the most. Ideas are always there, and I often have too many of them, but they can not be implemented all at once. Sure, every piece at one point finds its own place.

At what part of the job you enjoy the most?
It’s hard to question, because I really enjoy everything in a different way. Whenever I finish a stage, I can not wait the next. I am very anxious to see how will the pieces I imagined turn out. A moment of joy, when I realize that the end result is just the way I wanted it to be, and this is something that is pulling me to continue to create.

Do you find a special inspiration in anydesigners work?
Chanel creations, and beautiful dresses created by Oscar de la Renta, always inspire me. Brothers Dean and Dan Caten behind the brand Dsquared² delight me witth their creations. Every time I watch their fashion shows I enjoy again and again. The style of their clothing is quite different from my style so I could not say that inspire me, but I would be happy to wear their every piece.

How long does it take to create a unique item of clothing?
It Depends on the cut, whether there is anything further to be hand-sewn, and if there are lot of of the details that need to be hand-stitched, which makes a piece of clothing unique. If it is more demanding model, production can take several days.

How does your process of creation?
If I am preparing a collection, the first step is designing and sketching on paper. Mostly I like it to be thematic, to have a particular story and that the models are more or less connected. The most difficult task is to find the appropriate material. It must match the pattern, it must also be comfortable and high quality. This quest sometimes takes longer than it should have. Then the production follows and at the end a photo shooting, which completes the whole story. Sometimes it takes a certain time in order to connect several different creations to one topic.

How, in your opinion looks a lady of style?
In my opinion, her clothes should be fully harmonized with her posture, speech, manners, etc. I do not care so much what she wears, as much as how she wears it. It takes time to build your own style and I think it comes with age. Also, I think that style can not be drastically altered with changing fashion trends, but it can be supplemented with an trendy piece because the lady of style also follows fashion.

What are your plans for the future? Are you going to stay true to your style and colors, or do you plan some changes?
For now I do not plan to introduce major changes. I’d rather stay true to what I’ve done so far, especially the colors.

Where were did you first introduced yourself to public and on what kind of projects were you working?
My First presentation was on one of the Design market, within the Mikser house-a. Positive reactions gave me the wind in my sails so I continued to exhibit in similar markets. This fall, I had the first solo show organized by BAFE team, in the space of SKC in Belgrade. Also, I presented myself with one dress in a show called ZIPP IT, which was a part of the same manifestation.

Are your personal style (clothing) trends associated with what you design?
They are not, but I confess that since I started with skirt designes, I began to wear them more frequently and in my own way, which is often different from the mentioned fairy-tale style. First of all it is very important to feel comfortable in what I wear. And I guarantee that the high waist skirts are ideal for that feeling of comfort

Do you think that people in Serbia are interested in a unique, and what is your experience?

There is, but not enough. I think it’s a very closed circle of people. These are generally the ones who know exactly where they can buy a unique piece of clothing and gladly do so. I got the impression that they fear from the reactions of others, if they wear something that is a little different from the already seen. Maybe I’m wrong, but I would definitely like for this to change.
