While traveling thru typical Tuscan landscape and imagining every scene from the movie Gladiator, with countless wynyard’s, narrow roads and idyllic scenery, you can`t be prepared for the things to come.
This is Siena, this is gothic and unbelievable. Small town that has a lot to offer with its rich an interesting history. Once a independent town, almost erased from the face of the earth by the great plaque, then in the war with Florence and today a UNESCO site.
This is Tuscan dream, best of the both worlds, nature and architecture complementing each other.
Rethink “old“ as the word, the Siena university was established in 1203., and this university is still renowned for its law and medical schools. After long stroll thru narrow and dark streets you come across the Piazza del Campo, and it takes your breath away. Still in use for annual Palio horse race, it is packed with tourist from all over the world which are lying in the sun. The day was perfect, sunshine, best espresso and the worst panini. It is hard to comprehend the size and the scale of cathedrals, towers and piazzas, they are the work of art. Legend claims that Siena was founded by Senius, son of Remus one of the two legendary founders of Rome.
This is a must see, as Siena offers unique blend of gothic and renaissance style. It stood the test of time and violent history for years to come and countless visitors to see its beauty. This is the daydream of every art and history enthusiast and certainly my Tuscan dream come true.
